We have survived the first FULL week of classes at Harrisburg North Middle School. It has been a great start to the year already, with the introduction of a new advisory curriculum centered around the 16 Habits of the Mind, a new robotics course offered in our Encore rotation called Project Lead the Way, and the start of the fall Middle School sports season. As we end our first official week, remember there is no school on Monday, September 4th in honor of Labor Day.
According to the US Department of Labor, "Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."
Enjoy your long weekend and thanks to everyone who is part of our Harrisburg family for making the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year here at HNMS a memorable one!
It's a brand new school year at HNMS, and like every year before, we are excited to announce some of the new changes that have taken place. The Harrisburg School District, and especially HNMS, is growing by leaps and bounds every year. Last year HNMS enrolled 580 learners by the end of the 2016-2017 school year. As of the first day of school this year, we are now at 659 students! That's a growth of 79 new students from last year.
To accommodate all of students, there are also some new teachers joining the NHMS family. In 7th grade, Mrs. Martin joined the math department, Ms. Johnson joined the ELA team, and Mrs. Kuntz joined the SPED department. 6th and 8th grade also added new teachers as well as the Wellness/PE and Encore teams. Other new faces include a new band teacher and the promotion of one of HNMS's finest to Assistant Principal.
Each year brings new changes to the schedule as well. This year we added a 4th lunch to the schedule to ensure that all of learners at HNMS have the opportunity to eat a healthy, delicious meal without hurrying through a long line, or running out of options. Advisory has moved to the middle of he day, opposite lunch, to help make this change the best possible option for our growing family.
These are just a few of the changes happening at Harrisburg North Middle School this year! If you are interested in learning more about what has changed from last year, or if you have any questions, feel free to contact the HNMS office staff or your student's advisory teacher.
We've officially survived the first day of the 2017-2018 school year! It was great to see the halls and classrooms of North Middle School full of excitement, nervousness, and a little bit of the summer time blues again. We have some great things planned this year at HNMS, especially with our 7th grade students! Keep checking back to see what's new, what's changed, and what's happening this year, and as always, if you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to contact one of the 7th grade teachers.
